We had a little holiday at Mannum, South Australia a few weeks back.
It is a lovely town right on the banks of the Murray River.
We planned to go camping in the caravan park but unfortunately I forgot to tell the Man of the House that the tent we were borrowing was in two bags.
We only packed one.
Upon asking management what we could do, we discovered that the only accommodation available was a deluxe cabin.
I tried to be disappointed :-)
Many holiday makers visit the Murray River for the water sports in Summer so we found holidaying at the end of Winter had quite a different feel.
Peace. Quiet. Solitude.
Some of my favourite things.
Here I am by the banks of the river looking relaxed in my Target tracksuit, hehe.
I actually wasn't that relaxed.
There were beautiful swans and pelicans quite close by.
Lovely to look at.
Not so nice to sit in their shit.
Not that I did but I decided to get up after that photo!
Our little deck was a much nicer spot.
If you've never been to Mannum in the late Winter/early Spring, I highly recommend it.
We were blessed with beautiful mild weather. There was a great playground in the caravan park itself and another large one in the main street. An amazing bakery with amazing prices. A mainstreet of shops to browse in. A ferry ride for the kids, big and small. Great food at the Mannum Club.
Also, I must admit I was quite nervous about staying near water before we arrived but we managed to tag team really well with the kids so my anxiety around supervision near the water was not too bad.
This was sunrise, it was so beautiful.
For all the mums of young children about to begin their Spring holidays...I wish you a relaxing and fulfilling time together as a family, whether you're staying home or heading away.
It won't be all rainbows and roses, whether it's sitting in bird shit or a forgotten tent bag or squabbling kids...so take some deep breathes, be gentle with yourself, take a little break if you need to and see what's in your parenting or self care tool box to try.
Here's a post I wrote last school holidays after a rough day if you need it!
